Shar's shindig

Some Things Good Scholarship

As some of you know, one of Shar's great regrets in life was that she never finished her graphic design degree at Sam Houston State University. I bear more than a little responsibility for this fact and, thus, have created an endowed scholarship in her name at SHSU as a way to make a lasting difference in her honor. The annual scholarship will be awarded to a deserving student in graphic design who lacks the funds and/or who is required to work (as she did) to make ends meet. I believe she would be both proud and a little embarrassed (never one to accept praise easily).

Many of you have asked me if there is any cause or charity where a donation in her memory would be appropriate. I cannot think of a better way than an investment in someone's future. If you would like to make a tax deductible donation to the scholarship, then please email Darlene Andrews (DEV_DKA@shsu.edu) and she will be happy to assist.

Who's invited?

All her favorite people!

Please RSVP to shars.shindig@gmail.com

by October 19th if you plan to join us.

All further details (parking info and

party updates) will be shared via

email, so don't miss out!

What's a shindig?

By definition: a large, lively party,

especially one celebrating something

When is it?
Saturday, November 19, 2022

from 6–10 pm

(Shar's Birthday)

Where is it?
The Moore Residence

1002 West Louisiana Street

McKinney, Texas 75069

Why?

Because it's what Sharon would do

What should I wear?

We invite you to wear something, anything, that reminds you of Sharon (costume, fancy dress, paint-covered smock, etc.). It's a shindig, so no mourning attire please.

Where should I stay?

If you're planning on staying the night in McKinney before/after the party, then there are a slew of hotels within 10 minutes of the house to choose from: Sheraton McKinney ($135/night), Holiday Inn Suites ($124), Tower Place Suites by Marriott ($134), Home 2 Suites by Hilton ($127), Spring Hill Suites by Marriott ($143). There's also a pretty lively local AirBNB scene in the neighborhood. We'd recommend booking sooner rather than later, as it's a popular place to stay!

Should I bring anything?

Don't worry about food or drink (we've got that covered), but if you feel like you need to contribute something, then we'll be accepting gifts on the birthday girl's behalf (details below).

shar(E) the love

Sharon showed her love for her family and friends in myriad zany ways and, thus, provided us with numerous ways to celebrate her memory. If you're inspired by any of the examples listed below, no doubt she'd love for you to share the love.

THROW A PARTY
My mom KNEW how to throw a party. When I think of the BEST party, I immediately think of my six-year-old Pokémon-themed birthday. Not only did our whole family get into character with temporary hair dye and costumes, but each guest at the party got their own personalized Pokeballs and carriers. When you’re that young, you don’t remember much from your childhood, but this I'll remember forever. — McLean

Spread some joy
It’s no secret that my Mom moonlighted as a greeting card designer early on in her career, but did you know that she never really stopped? Throughout my college years, almost every single time I visited the mailbox, a “Cold Hands” original masterpiece awaited me. Inscribed on the front in some assortment of color and typography would be a quote, hand-selected by Sharon Moore to make me smile, think, laugh, or cry. Some might call me a notoriously poor long-distance communicator (it’s genetic), but without me ever asking, my Mom found a way to lift me up with words of encouragement and love every single week for 4+ years. In this picture you’ll find some of my favorites, displayed under the glass of my breakfast table, to ensure that all days begin with a word of wisdom from my wonderful Mah. It’s the little things in life that make the difference and she taught us that each and every day. — Dillon

GIVE A GIFT / Play a prank
My senior year of high school, my mom surprised me and five of my HP-obsessed friends with handmade Hogwarts robes. She bought the fabric, cut the patterns, sewed them, and had them MONOGRAMMED with our initials. It was insane, but it didn’t stop there. She then individually wrapped the robes in paper and attached a fake rat holding a tiny scroll inscribed with a Sharon-composed poem to each. We spent a whole day driving around town, dropping the packages on the porch of my friends’ homes, ringing their doorbells, and sprinting away to watch their reactions from the car. That was mom: give you a priceless gift you’d treasure forever and throw in a prank. — Sam

GO ON AN ADVENTURE
One random week in high school, I asked my mom to have a sleepover that weekend and she obliged. When the day arrived, she unveiled that this was to be no ordinary sleepover… but would include a themed scavenger hunt. Reluctantly, we donned bridal veils and set off on our bicycles to find clues all over the Texas A&M campus, eventually ending up back at my house to cut the final clue out of a potato. The end result? She’d bought her musical-obsessed daughter and her friends tickets to go see the play Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. There were seven girls in attendance. How did she orchestrate it without me being the wiser?! Only Sharon Moore knows.  — Erin
